My Guinea Pigs Introductions 2

Here are more stories about my own guinea pig introductions.

Squeekie and Beatrix
In December 2007, my dear Sweetpea made her journey to Rainbow Bridge. Squeekie was then on his own for a little while. During this time, Squeekie became much quieter and even a little depressed. I then decided to visit a local rescue after seeing a lovely female guinea pig on their site. She was around 6 months old, I brought her home and named her Beatrix. At first Beatrix lived in another cage on her own but once I knew Beatrix was healthy, I then introduced her to Squeekie. Both piggies really liked each other and apart from a little chasing, they soon settled down. Having Beatrix in Squeekie's life made him more alert and much happier. Both Squeekie and Beatrix developed a close bond very quickly. I can see the difference between their ages, Beatrix is loud and very quick, Squeekie now 6, prefers a quieter life and even leaves Beatrix to do all the wheeking at veggie time. At times Squeekie will run around and popcorn with Beatrix which is so lovely to see. I would defiantly describe Squeekie as Professor Henry Higgins and Bea is his Eliza Doolittle :)

Beatrix and Maisie
Sadly, Squeekie made his journey to Rainbow Bridge on the 15th April, 2009. Beatrix became very quiet after loosing her Squeekie, they really were a very close couple. I then brought home Maisie, who was so tiny, Beatrix looked like a giant guinea pig next to Maisie. After a couple of weeks, I introduced Maisie to Beatrix. Beatrix didn't accept Maisie straight away, a lot of pushing and chasing from Beatrix but it wasn't long before things calmed down between my girls. Maisie was only ever interested in being friends and in many ways, she reminds me of Sweetpea, although Maisie isn't as hyper and can be quite shy. Both girls get along most of the time. Beatrix can be a little territorial, especially regarding her bedding area but Maisie has learnt to make a quick retreat if she thinks Beatrix is being moody. I do occasionally hear the odd high pitched wheek from Maisie because Beatrix has given her a nip but its soon forgotten and I often see both girls sharing the same bed.
